Ed’s Car History: 2003 Mercedes-Benz S55 AMG #1

I have always loved the big AMG Mercedes cars. In 2003 when they released the supercharged 5.5 liter V8’s with 493 horsepower, I immediately wanted one. I found a very nicely kept 2003 S55 in Atlanta for sale by a private individual with about 90k miles in 2008 and bought it. I drove it about 15k miles and someone made an illegal left turn and hit me head on. We were both going 15-20 miles per hour and it absolutely destroyed his Camry but everyone was ok. The Mercedes was totaled and I made about $11,500 more than I paid for the car when the insurance paid me for it. It was pretty light on options but it was a great car while I had it.

EDIT – 4/2/15 – The car just popped up on Craigslist Miami. I knew from the Carfax that it had been rebuilt.

EDIT – 9/22/15 – Thanks to a commenter below, I found that the car has popped up again on eBay. It is continuing to make the rounds! This thing might be getting close to challenge my project 02 S55 for the worst S55 history in the US.
