The Current Lamborghini Gallardo Lineup

The Gallardo has been out since 2003 and it has evolved quite a bit during that time. Today you can buy a Gallardo that will fit just about any performance driving need that you could have. Lamborghini has done an excellent job of tailoring the car to fit the needs of almost any enthusiast. The current lineup includes:

The LP550-2
This is a standard production version of the 2WD version of the Gallardo that was released in 2010 as a retirement gift for Valentino Balboni. It is light, smooth, tail happy, and exhilarating to drive. They are extremely well balanced and easy to maneuver at low speed. The cars come in at an awesome price point and can be optioned lightly to have an MSRP of less than $200k.

The LP550-2 Bicolore
For 2011 Lamborghini made a limited run of 250 Bicolore Edition Gallardos. They come with E-Gear, Clear Engine Bonnet, Style Package, Branding Package, Black E-Gear Ring, Scorpius Wheels, and special order paint as standard. They are available in Orange, Yellow, White, Blue, and Gray. They all have black A Pillars, Roofs, C Pillars, and Decklids.

LP550-2 Black Edition
The Black Edition has the same option package as a Bicolore but it is available in Black. Also, you are free to select any interior color configuration and wheel design at no cost.

LP550-2 Monochrome Edition
The Monochrome Edition is essentially a Black Edition that is available in colors other than Black. The same options are included as standard.

LP560-4 Coupe
This is the standard Gallardo. It is All Wheel Drive and optioned in the same way that the car has been since 2009.This model was not available for the US Market in 2010.

LP560-4 Spyder
This is the standard Gallardo Spyder (Convertible). It is All Wheel Drive and optioned in the same way that the car has been since 2010. There were no Spyders available in 2009 (other than Press Cars).

LP570-4 Superleggera
This is an ultra-lightweight, higher horsepower version of the Gallardo that employs the extensive use of Carbon Fiber and Alcantera. The Superleggera was also offered in 2008 with similar changes from standard.

LP570-4 Performante
This is a convertible version of the Gallardo with the same modifications as the Superleggera and an additional decal package. Each dealer received one 2011 Demo but the main production year for the car is MY 2012.

Exotic Car Insurance Recommendations

As someone who has owned their fair share of exotic cars and as a salesman of some very precious metal, I am frequently asked for recommendations for insurance.

I have had the [mis]fortune of dealing with a lot of insurance providers for exotic car policies for commercial and personal policies. Here are some quick thoughts and recommendations.

I insured with State Farm in Georgia for a while. They had good customer service, my local agent was very good, and I generally had a good experience – until I had a claim. I hit a deer in my Gallardo. It was about $20k in damage and although they paid it, things were never the same. I had another minor incident which I discussed reporting with them. I did not end up reporting it and they invited me to shop around.

I then moved to All State and they have been phenomenal. My 612 was in an accident that was not my fault and they could not have been any better to deal with. They worked with me on the repairs, amendments to the estimate, and diminished value. I was actually the recipient of the largest diminished value settlement ever in the state of Georgia.

The rates were about 20% higher at State Farm than All State. I was paying about $150 per month per car as a 20-24 year old with a clean driving record.

The best solution is to go with a high end carrier such as Chartis. They offer the best policies that I have ever seen and have some great programs for exotics. It is best (and frequently necessary) to move your home, jewelry, and other policies to them in order to get them to take the auto business but I highly recommend them and will be switching to them as soon as possible.

We all love Top Gear. People tell me pretty often that I have the best job in the world. Most days it is tough to argue with but on Sunday nights I have some pretty strong ammunition – Top Gear is on.

I do not mean Tanner Foust and the Top Gear US boys. I am sure that they are enjoying themselves out there but at this point, that show is almost unwatchable. I am talking about the true British Version.

They run 2 seasons per year of 6-13 episodes. Eventually they get played in the US but I wouldn’t drive 700 hp cars if I was patient.

I download the episodes after they air from www.FinalGear.com. Of course I also watch the re-edited versions that get shown on the Discovery Channel and BBC America when they are made available to atone for my piracy.

If you have never heard of that site, consider this your Birthday, Christmas, and Secretary’s Day Present. I apologize in advance for the next 3 weeks of your life that you won’t get back!

Yeah, we like Astons too…

Motorcars of Georgia is a pretty cool place. Even though the primary business over the past 17 years has been quality pre-owned BMW’s, Mercedes, and other luxury cars; we have some pretty cool exotic franchises as well.

We are the Atlanta authorized dealer for Lamborghini, Lotus, and as of March 2010 – Aston Martin.

I was a bit skeptical at first about the practicality of the Aston Martin Product Line. I had heard the same stories that you all had about massive depreciation, electrical horror stories, and seen the frightening Ford ties.

I have to say that my tune has changed after seeing the cars and spending some time with them. I have never seen a brand of cars that has such high customer satisfaction. The entire range is spread out to accomplish a great variety of things. The Rapide has been absolutely phenomenal. Everyone who buys them never wants to get out. The DBS is one of the most beautiful cars that I have ever seen. All of the V12 cars have incredible exhaust notes you will ever hear.

The quality of the materials, the unending smell, and the gorgeous lines never seem to wear off. If you have ruled Astons out in the past, I urge you to reconsider and come take a test drive. They are really worth a second look.

Top Gear US: Season 2, Episode 6 Review

This week’s episode of Top Gear US centered around a fairly blatant imitation of the UK Version’s cheap car challenges. Each of the presenters was told to buy a car for $500 and then they competed in a series of challenges. The tests included the immensely practical competition of who could push their car the fastest, whose car had the most foreign fluids inside of it, and a “race” up the PCH.

The problem with the show is simply a lack of content. Obviously there are just a few shows, save LOST, who can compete with the UK Versions budget but the material in an episode of TopGear US can barely fill a trailer.

There are really only two segments per show. This week was the $500 car challenge and the test of the CTS-V range. With neither of those segments being interesting, the show falls pretty flat. Adam from Maroon 5 performed poorly on the SIARPC segment and the viewer didn’t leave with anything to glean from the hour of wasted life.

The presenters need to do something to develop a rapport with the viewer. The guys in England didn’t start out with jokes, they started out with cars. The shows were content rich and demonstrated that these guys knew what they were talking about. Until the US crew can develop that, the show is best viewed on Mute or not at all.

Jasper Cruise In – August 2011

A few of my friends wanted to go to a Cruise-In car show in Jasper, Georgia a couple of days ago and I thought that sounded like a great time. When the Lamborghinis came down the street, the crowd of antique American car owners didn’t know what hit them. To mitigate the shock and as a bit of a peace offering, I drove a Corvette ZR1 that we recently traded. It was an awesome drive up to the event and a great time at the show. Thanks to everyone in Jasper for being so welcoming. Here are some pictures.

On a side note, it was really interesting to get some seat time in the ZR1 over the weekend. The car is obviously a phenomenal performance car and impressive when you look at the numbers. This iteration has actually achieved an acceptable level of interior quality, sufficiently different body panels so as to avoid confusion with the automatic convertible Vette that your hair dresser drives, and some nice mastery of composite technology. The engine is awesome and the torque is unreal. The gearing is peculiar because they all feel the same. You really would be fine with just one of them – any one of the six will do. If you accidentally put it in fifth rather than reverse, it will just pull away without a stutter.

The suspension is absolutely punishing in sport. It is awesome when that is what you are looking for but when you just want to drive your car, it is unpleasant. It is nice to see it being appreciably different when you press the button though.

It is an easy car to drive, the seats are comfortable (but a bit unsupportive), and there is a decent amount of space inside. All six and a half feet of me fit without too much contortion. The traction control is pleasantly inept and the sound is pretty nice. The car feels a bit like it was it was taped together and it creaks all over the place. It all adds to the charm that I am sure a lot of people with excessive upper-dorsal sun exposure enjoy.

For me, still loving the Lambo’s!

Ed’s Past Lives – Supercar Rentals, Inc.

I have loved cars ever since I got the chance to get behind the wheel and I have always enjoyed the challenge of finding the most cost effective and practical ways to do so. When I look for a place to rent an exotic car I found nothing available in Atlanta. That led me to start Supercar Rentals, Inc. in 2006.

I started the business at age 20, just after my sophomore year at Georgia Tech. The first car in the fleet was a Lamborghini Gallardo and it was followed soon by many other gorgeous exotics. The company grew and expanded to have a great customer base in the Atlanta area. The company offered a great opportunity for people to experience a variety of cars at a very low cost with no long term commitment.

Supercar Rentals was a fun and sexy business to run and be a part of. I ran the company for about 5 years until the opportunity to work with Eric and the guys at Motorcars of Georgia came along. In 2009 and 2010 I sold the rental inventory and moved on to the current venture.

It was a great experience full of awesome memories and great cars. Thanks again to everyone who supported Supercar Rentals.

Check out the Lamborghini Atlanta Mircro-Site

There is only so much information that we can make conveniently available on our main page at LamborghiniAtlanta.com. We recently created a new micro-site to offer a bit more information about the dealership. The web site is www.LamborghiniAtlanta.org.

This web site will showcase a bit more information, extra pictures of cars and the dealership, and keep track of sold inventory. Have you ever wondered whether or not Lamborghini Atlanta had ever sold a car that you are looking at somewhere on the internet? Now you can find out by searching here.

I hope that this proves to be a useful tool for everyone who is shopping for a vehicle. We will have service records on most of the cars that show up on the micro-site available. If you would like any more information about one of the cars that you see there, please contact me.

The Micro-Site was developed by Kevin Bandy from www.bandydesign.com. He did a great job and we highly recommend him for any of your web development needs.
